Live IPO GMP & Grey Market Premium Explained

Grey Market is an unofficial market for trading IPO applications and unlisted shares before they officially list on the stock exchange. While SEBI does not regulate the grey market, observing the GMP (Grey Market Premium) can give investors a strong estimate of the expected listing price and listing gain.

Do we get profit from IPO?

Yes, many investors apply for IPOs solely for "Listing Gains," which occurs when the stock lists at a price higher than the issue price. However, if the market sentiment is bearish or the company fundamentals are poor, an IPO can also list at a discount, resulting in losses.

Is IPO pure luck?

Because IPO allotment in the retail category is done through a computerized lottery system when the issue is oversubscribed, getting an allotment involves luck. However, selecting which IPO to apply for requires careful fundamental analysis and monitoring of subscription and GMP trends.

What is Kostak and Subject to Sauda?

Kostak is the premium paid for an entire IPO application regardless of allotment. Subject to Sauda (Sub2) is the premium agreed upon for a guaranteed allotted application.

GMP activity can start before the price band announcement. The higher the GMP, the higher the probability of the IPO listing at a bumper price. Please consult a SEBI registered advisor before making financial decisions.
